UNSW Engineering staff and students from the ChallENG program collaborated with DEG and WAMS to develop irrigation solutions and shade for the WAMS community garden
after it was destroyed by Walgett Shire Council's water restrictions and poor management of the rives at Walgett in 2019. The garden’s water efficient microfarm was launched in December 2020 and is providing ongoing access to healthy food for clients of WAMS’ chronic disease program.
Since then WAMS and DEG have doubled the productivity of the Community Garden and launched a larger Community Garden in 2022.
