Virginia Robinson, Secretary of the DEG, visited the property Malabar 23 October 2015. The Dharriwaa Elders Group is concerned
that opal mining interests are seeking to allow opal miners on the property without undertaking thorough surveys beforehand to identify areas of high Aboriginal cultural and high environmental values. If thorough surveys are not undertaken, then DEG believes that opal miners and the NSW Government licencing authority could be at risk of breaking environmental and Aboriginal cultural heritage laws. In addition areas of high cultural and environmental values could be detroyed which can never be repaired or replaced or compensated for. Stay tuned to hear of DEG's activity on this issue which we have been battling since 2002.
